In an attempt to en-
courage Seaforth resi-
dents to shop at home,
the Seaforth BIA (Busi-
ness Improvement Area)
has given a facelift to an
existing promotion.

have been transformed
into Seaforth Smart
Money in a new Seaforth
Spirit campaign, offering
up to $300 per person in
currency that will bring a
10 per cent discount at 48
Seaforth stores.
"We've been very con-
cerned for some time
about local money leav-
ing this town and we've
seen the effects on Main
Street," BIA chair Cathy

While the BIA Bucks are tradition-
ally only offered during the Christ-
mas season, Smart Money will be
offered this spring, with a January,
2010 expiration date.
Three issues of $2,000 will be of-
fered for sale at town hall.
"We're hoping to spread it around
so there's maximun benefit for a
maximum number of retailers," she
said.
Elliott told council that since BIA
Members pay some of their property
taxes to finance the BIA, using 57
per cent of the BIA budget on Smart
Money seemed like the best way to
pay back the merchants.

receive the money will be able to re-
deem it at the Seaforth CIBC.
The Smart Money, offered in $5 de-
nominations, will have no cash value
and can only be used at participating
stores, identified by a Seaforth Spirit
poster in the window.
Elliott said the BIA has received an
"overwhelming response" from local
merchants.
"They want something done," she
said.
"It's a good initiative," said McKil-
lop Coun. Bill Siemon. "It could be a
winner."
