It has been six weeks since Wiarton
Willie predicted spring would come at
that time frame - he was quite close
although the first week in March was
milder which brought out the mud.
Most of the snow has gone except
where it is piled. The hill at the Win-
throp store is gradually lessening.
Rev John's sermon at Cavan United
was titled "Caed Mile Failte - lb Christ
in All Things." The service was based
on Celtic Worship. Carol Hunt and
Ruth Campbell participated in this
service and the Winthrop Quartet sang
"All Through The Night." Greeters and

On Sat. Mar. 7 the Drama Club at
CHSS participated in the Sears Drama
Festival at Stratford, Curtis to Brinke
was awarded the Best Actor award.
Ken and Marion McClure have re-
turned from spending time with
daughter Lisa and family in Rawleigh,
North Carolina. Ken and Marion wel-
comed their newest family member, a
granddaughter.

The girls rugby team
from F.E. Madill High
School are at present
in England for a tour-
nament. Granddaughter Aleisha Dale
is a member of this team.
The Seaforth Petite girls ringette
team was in a tournament in Niagara
Falls recently. They won the gold med-
al. Members from the area included
Allison Braecker, Amy Alcock and Iris
Vander Ploeg..
Marjorie Dolmage has returned from
a trip to Red Deer Alberta where she
visited her sisters. They travelled to
Edmonton and spent time in the West

Edmonton Mall. The temperature in
Edmonton was -40. -
The old underground gas pumps have
come out at the Winthrop store. They
had been replaced with above ground
tanks so gas and diesel are still avail-
able.
Don't forget the "Coffee Time" on Fri-
days at Cavan.

etc. under the capable hands of Com-
rade Brian Melady and great music
by the Meladys. '
The Zone Convention will be in
Owen Sound April 18 and 19.
Zone Public Speaking is at Exeter
March 21st with many of our stu-
dents participating.
The Ladies Auxiliary is . holding
their Zone Euchre at Br. 109 Goder-
ich on April 25th.
Stag Euchre starts tonight (March
18).

notebooks too, which we need bad-
ly because we have no trees here,"
he told us, referring to the hurri-
cane that ripped through the area
years before, destroying any trees
in the area and salting the earth
so none could grow after without a
soil improvement program.
We left the school for our hotel
with our heads down, feeling...
spoiled. It's a shocker to think that
nearly 50 per cent of the world's
population lives in poverty.
We did however, take pride in
the fact that Canadians have a
reputation for being generous and
thoughtful of others who are liv-
ing in less fortunate parts of the
world.
When we do a little bit to help, it
truly does make a difference.
