A 58 -year-old Huron East
man has been charged with
assault after an alteration
between the man and some
youth who were throwing
snowballs, the Huron OPP
reports.
On March 4, at approxi-
mately 7:30 p.m., Huron
OPP officers received a
complaint about snowballs
being thrown at a Hurori
East residence.
While investigating the
incident, the officer deter-
mined that the complain-
ant had chased a group of
youth he believed had been
responsible for throwing
the snowballs.
During ' the chase, the
man was alleged, to have
assaulted one of the youth.
The officer returned the
youth involved in the inci-
dent to the man's residence
to apologize for swearing at
him during the chase.
The man is scheduled to
appear in Goderich court
on April 20.

Walking the 13 kilometres between
Seaforth and Dublin as one leg in a
260 -kilometre challenge to raise money
for guide dogs, Mel and Dorothy Bogie, of
Goderich didn't let frigid temperatures
and a bit of snow get them down.
"Oh, this is nipe. You just have to dress
for it," said Dorothy as she hiked down
Highway 8.
The two Lions Club members, Mel of
the 'Goderich Club and Dorothy of the
Dungannon club, are planning to do 16
club -to -club walks before May 1, prefer-
ably on the night the Lions Club meets
in the town they're headed for.
Asking each club for a donation, the
couple hopes to raise $20,000 towards
the Lions Foundation's Canine Vision
Canada Dog Guide program, which pro-
vides dogs for the visually -impaired, the
hearing-impaired, the disabled and those
who have seizures.
Mel, who was governor of the district
for the Lions Club in 1990-91, says he
decided to challenge the 16 Lions Clubs
in the district including Goderich, Clin-
ton, Mitchell, Seaforth, Dublin, Blyth,
Brussels, Wingham, Theswater, Formo-
sa, Mildmay, Lucknow, Ripley, Auburn,

The recession has hit Seaforth's
Main Street with the closure of two
local businesses.
Both Danica McNichol, of Nifty
Korners and Doug Fry, of Tucker's
Meats say the ailing economy had a
large role in their decision to close
up shop by this June.
"People just aren't buying. ,
They're barely even looking," says
McNichol, who is starting a going -
out -of -business sale next week.
McNichol says business has been
suffering over the past one and a
half years and it's only been get-
ting worse as time goes by.
She ended up taking a second job
at Ritz Lutheran Villa to pay• the.
bills and she and her husband tisiin
decided in January they'd have to
close Nifty Korners 'after 14 years
in business.
"We had 11 good years and then it
started going downhill. I hate to do'
it but we have to think of our liveli-
hood - we've ben thinking about it.:
for the past yeah," she says.
While she acknowledges that
small town businesses always have
the challenge of trying to convince
people to shop at home, McNichol
says it's been impossible lately.
"You can't survive on lottery tick-
ets and cards," she says of the only
sellers at the shop.
And, she predicts that there will
be more closures on Main Street if
local shops don't get more support
from area residents.
"Most of . Seaforth's businesses
are in the same boat," she says.
Doug Fry, owner of Tucker's
Meats, says the poor economy is
causing fewer and fewer customers
to come through the door. a`:
"I'm looking ahead and I think 4.
