Residents were given a bingo card with several random acts of kindness to work on during the next couple of weeks and discussed how little things in life can bring happiness. , Residents packaged up Valentine's hot chocolate for an area ` Dining for Seniors. Residents also scooped Lav- ender Epsom salts• to be delivered to area community businesses in celebra- tion of Random Act of Kindness week. Yatzee and croki nole have been fa- vourites this week. Ladies enjoyed be- ing pampered Friday afternoon as manicures were offered. Saturday there was lots of -red being worn and residents received Valen- tines and chocolate kisses from a se- cret cupid. Ellen Green led morning chat and coffee ' while serving tea and special heart cookies. Retirement residents are doing .a lot of walking, which they initiated at the beginning of February celebrating. healthy heart month by Walking to the Rockies... Retirement Home Di- rector Julie Grimnni.nck and physio as-, sistant Mandl Deblock are getting the residents in motion by walking at the end of each exercise class. Residents were given a calendar to write down the number of extrasteps taken throughout the weeks. Prizes were given out at the end of the first week in February to, the person with the,most steps. Beth Knox, Esther Wright and Ross Trewartha received a prize for their `Box Social' enjoyed on Valentine's Day Back tostormy weather again in Winthrop and snow. It's back to winter boots again, February is almost over and hopefully this type of weather along with it. Rev. John's sermon at Cavan United Church with was titled "Unveiling the Truth." Greeters and collectors were Larry and Susan Wheatley.' Brunch followed the service. Greeters and collec- tors for Feb. 15 were Jim and Ann Bosman. An enjoyable evening was had, by those who attended the "Box Social" on Valentine's Day. After the meal. "Court Whist" was played. Fresh baked bread and a bread -baking session will be part of Northside United Church's Ash Wednesday service this year: ¶bnight's (Feb. 25) service at 7:30 p.m. will include a drama during which Isabelle Hunt makes bread and fresh bread is used for communion. Ash Wednesday has its roots as far back as the year 960 in the Romano Germanic pontifical and it shows up in his- tory in many different ways. It has evolved from sprinkling ashes on people to the making the sign of the cross onthe forehead. It follows Shrove Tuesday, the last day of the season of Epiphany before the season of Lent.
