Sports Juvenile broomball team earns bronze at provincials The Huron Expositor • February Seaforth's Juvenile girls broom - ball team won a bronze medal at the provicials in Barrie last weekend. And, while the rest of Seaforth's minor broomball teams had many close games during the provincials in Barrie last weekend, they came home with only one win. The Juvenile girls won against Eastern Thunder 1-0 and a Central East team 1-0 before losing to East- ern Seaway 1-0 and then Eastern Thunder 1-0 to win the bronze med- al. "This is an excellent result for us," said coach Georgina Reynolds. "We've done very well in the adult league as well this year." Reynolds says seven of the 13 girls on the Juvenile team have been asked to join other teams in the broomball nationals in Montreal in late March. The Seaforth Juvenile boys won one of -their three games in a 4-0 game against Blyth. They lost against the Ottawa Ice Dogs 1-0 and to the Owen Sound -area Young Bucks 1-0. The Seaforth Bantam broomball team lost their first game Friday afternoon 4-0 against the Windsor - area Devils. .04 The Bantams played- very well for most of the first period and goalie Adriana Herrera was turning away any shots that got through the deter- mined defence. Unfortunately the game fell apart in a matter of 23 seconds near the end of the first period when the Dev- ils scored three quick goals. The Bantams regained .their com- posure in the second period and had some good chances but were unable - to get on. the scoreboard. Late in the third period, the Devils scored again. The second game for the Bantams was on Saturday at 7 a.m. against the Cortice Cobras. The Bantams outplayed the Cobras for a lot of the game and had some close chances including Wade Bark- er hitting the post and Daniel Law- son coming in on -the goalie alone but unable to get the ball by the Cobra netminder. Becky DeWetering also just missed scoring as a couple of her shots went just wide of the goal and Herrera played another solid game in net, having a shut -out after regu- lar time was finished.
