Mary Cardinal, Seaforth Com- munity Hospital site administrator, said she couldn't respond to Levis concerns but added that the volume of patients is being tracked during the interim nighttime closure of Sea- forth's ER. "Since the adjusted hours have come into effect, things seem to be managed well," she said, adding that since Seaforth's ER has always had low patient volumes at night, it's un- likely that other hospitals are seeing a huge increase in patients. "We are tracking the information but it's too early to say. But, we're not seeing` enormous numbers that someone else will have to absorb," she said. While it's been. two weeks since_ the nighttime ER closure began, Cardinal said no one has yet been re- cruited to fill the stafi-ng shortage that caused the closure. Cardinal said a deadline was not placed on the situation since it's impossible to know when a nursing staff shortage can be resolved. "We will resolve it as quickly as we can but it is driven .by human re- sources, not budgeting `. issues," she said. "It might be the time of year since this is generally not the time of year when people look at relocating their families."
