"So, there's more than one bug circu- lating," she says. And, Taylor says those who have come down with either Influenza A or B are often bedridden for three to seven, days. "In the cases we're seeing, people are really quite sick," she says, adding that it's still worthwhile to get a flu shot if you haven't already. Taylor says that while health officials know that the flu shot is not a perfect match for Influenza B this year, it's a good match for Influenza A. She adds that a typical number of people received a flu shot this year in Huron County. Taylor says Influenza B typically af- fects teens and young adults. "And, that's what we're seeing. It's a population where things are set up to spread since they're in close proxim- ity at schools and they don't necessar- ily wash their hands often enough," she says. Unusual as well is the fact that the health unit usually doesn't see cases of Influenza B until March but this year, cases were seen as early as January. "There are a lot of sick kids out there and it's really taking a toll on them since they're out for seven days," she says. Taylor is encouraging school children to wash their hands frequently and to stay home when they feel the first symp- toms of the flu coming on. "You can spread it for five days at the onset so at the first signs of being sick, stay home and give yourself a chance to recover," she says, adding that adults are also encouraged not to work through any illness but to go home and recover. She emphasizes that anyone with any symptoms should stay away from vul- nerable populations in nursing homes or hospitals. "Don't go and see grandma and grand- pa in the nursing homes and don't go there with your school if you're feeling sick," she says. As well, she recommends sanitizing high contact surfaces like computer keyboards and mice or telephones to prevent the spread of illness. 1 HILDEBRAND PAINT & PAPER Call Doug for all of your painting and wallpapering needs Seaforth 519-527-0058 (519) 5254078 , T11() MIDSOi URETHANE SPRAY ♦', FIBREGLASS INSU1A'1'1ON CaII Ron At 519-263-2319 DUCHARME CARPENTRY 8( DRYWALL TIM DUCHARME 519-527-2068 MOBILE 519-525-0138 This Spot Available Call the Huron Expositor 527-0240 • • • Agricultural • Residential • Commercial • Pole Line Construction '1 The Huron Expositor • February 18, 2009 Page 17 CT ` Sceenei, Compel, n `'r Y .s°14 rcfor.t , 01/814 CT scanner contribution Goderich Signal -Star photo Lorne and Bonnie Glanville, representing the Kinburn Foresters, present a cheque for $1,000 to Heather Glenister, executive director of the Goderich Marine and General Hospital Foundation towards the CT Scanner fund.
