Stars' novice -squad faces off for a
Mitchell at the John Labatt Centre in London
a
e against
..
Seaforth Stars novice local league
coach Don Brown admits that when
his team of seven and eight -year-olds
looked "pretty small" on the big ice
surface at the John Labatt Centre in
London on Friday.
While they might have appeared
small, their enthusiasm was huge,
he says.
The seventeen players faced off
against .a Mitchell squad for 45 min-
utes in a game immediately before
the OHL's London Knights played
the Guelph Storm.
The players were so excited for
the opportunity to play in the big
arena that when Brown spoke to the
team in the dressing room before the
game, he could barely hear himself
think over the noise the pumped up
players made in anticipation.
"They were extremely excited," he
says, adding that the team won the
game 3-1.
Part of the Knights' promotion that
JLC is thabbboth teams in the game
need to sell 88 tickets for the game.
Brown notified all the parents on
the team before accepting the offer,
and says he received positive re-
sponses from them about the idea.
Both the novice Stars and the
Mitchell squad were able to sell all
their tickets, putting about 200 fans
in the seats for the match.
After the game, both coaches put
all their players names in a hat and
drew one for a special opportunity.
Seaforth's Tyson McGavin was
given the chance to skate through
a blow-up castle with the Knights
team during the players' introduc-
tions at the start of the game.
McGavin followed the team onto
the ice and stood on the blue line
with the rest of the players during
thesinging of Oh Canada.
All the players on the novice team
stayed and watched the Knights
game, which ended in a 5-4 win for
the home team.,,;

Radars pick up
two wins
The Clinton Radars are starting to show some signs
of life, and with the playoffs just over three weeks away
their timing couldn't be better.
The Radars have won three straight and now have
eleven wins and six losses (22 pts) and sit in fourth place
in the WOAA South Division with only three games left
on the schedule:
On Friday night, the Radars faced a short-staffed Mil-
verton squad and came away with a lopsided 8-3 win.
The Radars lead 2-1 after one period on goals from
Shawn Walker and Tyler Elligsen.
In the second, Jim Bradley, Cole Stewart, and Joel Ri-
ley each scored to put the home team up 5-2.
The Radars scored three more in the final frame with
Stewart and Elligsen adding their second goals. Bill
Bradley scored the Radars final goal. Nathan Burns,
Jason Grenier and Walker each picked up two assists.
Craig Smith, Zack O'Krafka, Nick Elligsen, Brenden
Dale, Dan Easter, Riley and B. Bradley all added one
helper.
Chuck Robertson got the win in goal for the Radars.
Saturday night in Thedford saw the Radars just go
through the motions and come away with a 5-4 win.
The Radars took a 5-1 lead in to the third but some
lazy and dumb plays let Thedford score three goals and
make the game closer than it ever should have been.
Shawn Walker lead the Radars offence with a hat -
trick. Craig Smith and Tyler Elligsen had the other Ra-
dars goals.
Sean Ellison got his second win in as many starts be-
tween the pipes for the Radars.
The Radars (11-6) next game is Jan.23 in Goderich
(8-8-1) at the Maitland Rec. Centre.
