The second -annual mixed jitney at
the Seaforth Curling Club is expect-
ed to give beginners a chance to de-
feat some of the area's most skilled
players.
The event is taking place on Jan. 10
and will use a unique scoring scheme
that will have curlers throwing rocks
without any idea how points will be
determined until they open a secret
envelope after each game.
They'll find a completely new set of
rules, which might eVen give young-
er, less -experienced curlers the up-
per hand.
During last year's event, in certain
games, even rocks thrown out of play
counted for something.
"It went over huge last year," says
LeeAnn Konarski, a Seaforth resi-
Konarski and event co-organizer
Lorna McKercher hope to see as
many new and regular curlers at-
tend the mixed jitney this time.
"Last year, 24 people came out and
'we would love to have that many
again," Konarski says.
If two dozen people show up, six
teams of four players can hit the ice
for an afternoon of curling, begin-
ning at 4 p.m.
The event is also meant to attract
new people to the sport.
First-time curlers of any age will
be welcomed.
The $25 admission fee includes
dinner and a full afternoon of curl-
ing.
Local businesses have also donated
prizes to be given out to the winners
of the mixed jitney.
adars lose in Tavisto
A season that started with so much promise is quickly turning into a night- 't
mare. After winning seven of their first eight games, the Clinton Radars
have now lost four out of their five games and sit in seventh place in the.
WOAA South Division with a record of eight wins and five losses.
After not having played in three weeks, the Radars travelled to Tavistock
on Saturday looking to start 2009 on high note.
Things looked good early as the Radars lead 2-0 after the first period on
goals from Cole Stewart and Nick Elligsen. 1p -1w:4;440,4
ki4r-4;74 •
- However, after that the Radars seemed to disappear and
allowed Tavistock to score the next five goals before Joel
Riley scored his first goal as a Radar midway through the
third period. The Royals added a late goal to make the
final score 6-3.
_ -
Chuck Robertson took the loss in goal for the Radars.
Now for the good news: the Radars still have seven
games left on the schedule, meaning that there is more
than enough time for the team to turn things around and
go into the playoffs on a high note. If the Radars can put
a string or wins together they could still secure home ice
advantage for the first round.
The Radars next home game is this Friday (Jan.9)
against the Exeter Mohawks (6-8-1) at 8:30. On Satur-
day (Jan.10) the Radars play in Tillsonburg (9-4-2) at
7:30.

Coaches' Comments: The team would have preferred to finish up the
Kincardine Silver Stick tournament with a'win but came away with a
hard-fought tie to at least make an exit on a strong note.
