The eight staff members at the Tuckersmith Day Nursery received a portion of $10,730 as a one-time bonus through the provincial Best Start program. The purpose of the funding was to support the increase of staff salaries in childcare centres and Best Start programs, said a report to Huron East council from Clerk - Administrator Jack McLachlan. The bonus was only given the full-time frontline staff at the daycare centre to recognize their performance this past year. Council also passed a 2.5 per cent raise to all employees to reflect the consumer price index. The raise adds $57,500 to the 2008 budget. COLDWGLL BANKeR D www.coidweiMankertc.com 1 Main St. S. Huron East still debating financing of FHT building Susan Hundertmark allEIMMENO Concerns from a few Huron East councillors at last Tuesday's council Meeting about whether or not the finances for the new family health team (FHT) building will work out as optimistically as projected were quashed by Mayor Joe Seili. "That issue was gone at the last meeting," responded Seili to Tuckersmith Coun. Larry McGrath who raised the question. McGrath said he was concerned about whether or not a $2 million debenture over 20 years could be paid off at the fees planned for tenants. _ "My basic concern is that ratepayers could get hung with more than the calculated numbers. My concern is how much can we bear," he said, adding that the FHT building, the new library in Brussels and a possible sewage system in Egmondville could overburden ratepayers. Seili responded with an announcement that Dr. Claudio Munoz, of London, is opening a clinical research centre in Seaforth at the new FHT building in the new year to study stroke and heart attack prevention.
