Christmas celebrations in Holland shared with
children at Cavan United Church service
Winter came with a "blast on
Monday in Winthrop. Since then it
has been fairly normal with cool
temperatures and a forecast of
milder temperatures for this week.
The service at Cavan United
Church started with the singing of
four carols. The Advent candles
were lit by Mike and Lorrie Goos,
Farren and Zack with Carly looking
on from Grandma Betty's knee.
Maja Dodds told the children
about how Christmas was celebrat-
ed in Holland when she was a child.
Gift giving was observed on Dec. 6
when their, wooden shoes were set
out for gifts from St. Nicholas. If

The Sunday school presented a
program called "Happy Birthday
Jesus." White gifts were collected.
The quartet contributed two num-
bers. Also assisting with the musi-
cal parts were Murray and Sherry
McCall, Andrew Patrick and Orville
Storey on violins.
Rev. John's sermon was titled
"Who Was John?" Greeters and col-
lectors were Marion Hunt and
Sandra Zwep.
After the ser-
vice a soup and
bread luncheon was
put on by the Sunday School and
was enjoyed by a good crowd.
Cavan U.C.W. Christmas Dinner
is on Wednesday at 6:30 (Dec. 12).
Turkey and potatoes supplied, the
rest is potluck.
Doug and Vicki Campbell and
girls have returned from a trip to
Disney World (Florida). They had
great weather every day of the
week. Natalie loved the water park
- telling me "It was a hoot" and
Alaina's favourite was the train
roller coaster.

Leonhardt attended a Flex Cement
training seminar in Bracebridge
this week.
DavidRobinson, age 14, son of
Scott and Jeanette won the Grand
Champion showman for junior bar-
row show at the Royal Agricultural
Winter Fair recently. There were 78
contestants in this category ages 10-
21. Also competing were Renee and
Mark Robinson.

Branch received 34 new tables for
the hall compliments of the Ladies
Auxiliary. Comrade Ed Baker has
them all set up for us.
Zone Euchre will be at Branch
