Pheasant hunt for youth
offered at Hullett
The Friends of Hullett with com-
munity partners hosted a first
annual Youth Pheasant Hunt
recently.
The collective effort being lead by
the Friends of Hullett, a non-profit
volunteer organization that works
with the Ontario Ministry . of
Natural Resources and Ducks
Unlimited Canada, also involves 29
community partners and sponsors to
provide a structured and education-
al hunting opportunity for youth
who are graduates of the Ontario
Hunter Safety Education course and
licensed as apprentice hunters.
A similar youth hunt has been
hosted by the Elgin Stewardship
Council at the Fingal Provincial
Wildlife Area for the last three
years, providing a successful model
for the Friends of Hullett and part-
ners to follow at Hullett.
The purpose of this event is to:
- Expose area youth in the Hunter
Apprentice Safety Program to a
quality pheasant hunting experi-
ence in a controlled and safe envi-
ronment,
- Promote hunting safety, ethics and
social camaraderie aspects of this
outdoor activity
- Educate youth about wildlife man-
agement, stewardship and good
relations between hunters and
landowners
- Increase awareness on the benefits
of a trained hunting dog in enhanc-
ing the hunting experience;
- Support the mandate of the
Friends of Hullett, while introduc-
ing new hunters to this amazing
property and area; and
- Show these young hunters the
proper handling and preparation of
harvested game.

rock as it moves into the house during a high school curling bonspiel held in
Vanastra recently. CHSS hosted Mitchell and Stratford Northwestern teams for
the bonspiel, which kicked off the 2007-08 season. The local school's cooking
class also did their part to make the Nov. 30 event a success, catering lunch for
all of the participants.
