St. James student collecting bears
for children at London cancer clinic
While he's "bearly"
12, Jordan Simonsen,
a Grade 5 student at
St. James School, is
trying to put a smile
on the faces of people
who will spend
Christmas in the hos-
pital.
Simonsen is collect-
ing teddy bears for the
second year for
patients at the
London Cancer Clinic.
"He had 130 bears
last year and he's hop-
ing to have 200 this
year. That's his goal,"
says his mom Tabitha
Simonsen.
Simonsen has 17
bears right now, and
is hoping for more
donations so that he
can reach his goal by
Dec. 14.
The bears must be delivered to the
Children's Miracle Foundation in London so
they can be steam cleaned before dispersion
to the London cancer patients.
He has a box at school open to donations
and parents and teachers are helping
Jordan get more teddy bears.
"My grandma really liked collecting teddy
bears so that's where I got the idea," he said.
Simonsen's grandparents both died from
cancer recently.
"I'm going to do it every year now," he

said.
The bears will accompany many sick kids
in the London Cancer Clinic "and they get to
keep them," Jordan added. "I want the kids
to have a nice Christmas because they won't
get much so we decided to give them teddy
bears so they would have something. I'm
happy they will get one each year."
Simonsen has a long way to go to reach his
goal, but that's no discouragement to him.
No matter how many he collects this year
he said he will be right back at it next year.
