Cavan Sunday School concert to be held Dec. 9
December has arrived in
Winthrop with snow followed by
rain. Wind has also been involved.
There are now less than 25 days to
Christmas.
Sunday, Dec. 2 was the first
Sunday in Advent. At Cavan a good
crowd was present to witness the
confirmation of Holly Braecker. She
was presented with a Bible and cer-
tificate as well as a gift from the
Sunday School.
The first Advent candle was lit by
Connie, Kim and Amy Alcock.
Rev. John's sermon was titled
"When God Calls Time." Greeters
and collectors were Susan
MacDonald and Ruth Campbell. A
social time followed the service.
Next Sunday, Dec. 9 is the Sunday
School concert as well as White Gift
Sunday. Lunch will follow.
Dec. 12 is the Cavan UCW
Christmas Dinner. Turkey and pota-
toes will be supplied with the extras
"pot luck."
Don and Maja Dodds attended the
Rita MacNeil show with the Men of
the Deep in London recently and
enjoyed it immensely.
A good number of people braved
the cold wind to participate in or
enjoy the Santa Claus parade in
Seaforth.
Many floats, bands, walkers, etc.
bundled up to be a part of this
colourful evening parade.
Next evening we found a good
vantage point to enjoy the Sawmill
Road farm machinery parade. I

counted 20 participants including
one horse and buggy (there were
two horses).
Several different types of machin-
ery were well decorated with lights.
However, I missed the old hay
loader that was present last year.
A lot of time and hard work was
evident in preparing the floats for
both parades.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
If you're too busy to laugh, you're
too busy, period.

The really good stuff stands
the test of time
From Page 4
Nonetheless, in spite of all of. my
gnashing of teeth, I do realize that
for many, newer is better. Though, if
you take a little closer of a look, it's
easy to see the same trends tend to
rear their leg warmers each decade
or so.
Plus, the really good stuff -- like a

By the same token, what is
deemed fancy by the light of the
disco ball -- whether it is jelly shoes
or jogging suits as daily wear --
often proves, rightly, to be a mere
flash in the pan of fashionable.
