Behnke says she enjoys helping others
From Page 9
and recuperating at home, she had a chance to experi-
ence the town's caring herself with multiple flower
arrangements and meals sent to her home.
"I was very ill and my staff just picked up the reins
and worked extra hours without complaining," she
says, adding that they also took over her share of the
"Out of the Wood" fundraiser, completely as volunteers.
"I'm really bad at taking help but I learned I'm not
invincible," she says, adding that her partner Ray, her
staff and her friends all helped a lot during her illness.
Behnke says she believes that everyone is waiting for
a chance to be helpful but don't always know how.
"I think they're afraid of being offensive but' I don't
worry about that. I'm a little outspoken and not always
politically correct," she says, adding that she gets very
enthusiastic about the causes she believes in.
"I enjoy helping people. I think everyone does," she
says.
Snowmobile goes through ice on Maitland River
A snowmobile went through the
ice on the Maitland River in
Brussels on Dec. 3 after two friends
who were snowmobiling dared each
other to cross the river.
While the first was successful, the
second one lost his snowmobile
through the thin ice at approxi-
mately 8:30 p.m. on Monday.
Both snowmobilers were left cold
but unhurt.
The Huron OPP warns snowmo-
bilers to avoid crossing thin ice.
"Luckily no one was injured dur-
ing this episode but luck can run
out," says Huron OPP Const.
Joanna Van Meirlo.
School board
decision will

unknown of how schools should
best be built for upcoming gener-
ations.
The board knows it needs to
strive for understanding as much
as we can about the school com-
munities being reviewed.
Otherwise, like that day in
Atwood, a few errant details
could define the future of these
communities.

WITH
COTTAGE -Y
CHARM
The rustic stone and wooden shakes
that embellish the exterior of this
three-bedroom family home lend it a
cottage -y charm. But inside, every-
thing is up-to-the-minute, with all
the features a modern family desires.
The dining room, in a bayed -out
area, enjoys windows on two sides.
This room is separated from the
kitchen by a raised eating bar. The
L-shaped counter configuration
promises efficiency, and the prep
island will save steps for the cook. A
walk-in pantry will provide always -
welcome storage space.
Next to the pantry is the laundry
room, with a handy row of coat
hooks and access to the double
garage, which features two different
door designs on the exterior, as well
as a window.
This home measures 57 feet wide
and 60 feet deep, for a total of 1,985
square feet of living space. The
design includes an optional floor
plan to accommodate stairs to a
basement.
