Susan Hundertmark
Huron East councillors got a chance to
have their questions answered about the
architect's plans for the new family health
(FHT) team building in Seaforth last
Tuesday night.
But, no final decisions were made about
the tenders from builders.
The number of necessary parking spaces,
whether or not to include a turnaround circle
at the entrance, how the building will be
funded and any possible cost savings were
discussed by councillors before giving
administration direction to send the plans to
municipal lawyers.
"We need to proceed to the lawyers before
we pass it. We'll have the bylaw ready for
next Tuesday," said Clerk -Administrator
Jack McLachlan.
Marklevitz Architects have recommended
accepting the lowest tender of $1,963,122
from Smith Construction.
Deputy -Mayor Bernie MacLellan asked
why the new FHT building would cost -$1.9
million or more when the Community Care
Access Centre (CCAC) building only cost
$800,000 when it was built a few years ago.
"I think we're paying double and it's only
two years later," he said.
The CCAC building opened for business in
March of 2004.
