Hensall boy, 9, continues holiday gift campaign
Nine-year-old Travis McLeod, of
Hensall, is starting a holiday tradi-
tion of his own.
After a successful first campaign
last year, the Grade 4 Hensall
Public School student is once again
collecting Canadian Tire money and
monetary donations in order to pur-
chase gifts for children living with
cancer.
With help from his parents, Caleb
and Candice McLeod, Travis pur-
chased more than 80 gifts in
December of 2006. A total of nearly
$1,450 in cash and $300 in
Canadian Tire money was donated
to the drive.
Working together with ChildCan,
the McLeods delivered the gifts to
the oncology unit at the Children's
Hospital of Western Ontario
(CHWO) in London to be handed
out on Christmas morning.
Childcan works with the
Children's Hospital, London Health
Sciences Centre, pediatric oncology
teams, satellite clinics and various
community agencies to enhance the
quality of life for children living
with childhood cancer and their
families.
Travis first began working with
the organization in May of 2006,
when he held a drink stand
fundraiser and donated $150 to the
cause. Two similar drink stands, in
Hensall and Seaforth, last spring
netted $200 for the charity.
Candice said she chose to make
Travis' donation via Childcan,
because the organization receives
no government funding.
She noted the family would also
be working with an organization
called Child Life this year, and will
be purchasing gifts based on Child
Life's suggestions.
Anyone wishing to contribute to
Travis' 2007 Christmas drive can
mail their donation to Box 437,
Hensall, NOM 1X0.
Cheques or money orders should
be made payable to Candice
McLeod.
Tax receipts are available for
donations over $10, as long a full
