After all these years, there's still a
field of dreams in Arden Eddie's life.
But it has daffodils popping up in it,
not baseball players. And it isn't in
downtown London on the diamond at
Labatt Park anymore. It's the former

home in Harpurhey, where he and his
family have lived for the past three
years.
"When the spring comes around and
you're in baseball, you don't have much
time to spend muckin' around in the
garden," said the 60 -year-old, who
ended his 28 year Majors ownership
when he sold the local Intercounty
Baseball League entry to Scott Dart
and Roop Chanderdat in. 2004. "Now, I
do."
Last Thursday, Eddie drove back to
London to be part of the fifth anniver-
sary edition enshrined in the London
Sports Hall of Fame with former
Knights defenceman Brad Marsh, golf

and the 1945 London Shamrocks.
Eddie was inducted in the
builder/founder, modern category.
"The dinner was in the Carousel
room in the Western Fairgrounds," he
said, noting the food was very nice.
Eddie had to give a speech, which he
said isn't something he's comfortable
doing.
"Not too many of us are," he said.
When Eddie was informed of his
selection honouring his 37 -year affilia-
tion with the Majors as player, manag-
er and owner, he was overwhelmed.
He said he was "absolutely floored"
and the prospect of receiving the hon-
our was the furthest thing from his
mind. He noted that if you do things in
the hopes of being recognized, you're
dthem for the wrong reason.
Gary Alan Price, who brought him
the good news, thought the phone had
gone dead.
"I'm not speechless too often but I
was at that point," Eddie said. "I still
don't get it and I don't mean that in a
bad way: I didn't win anything. I was
inducted into the Wallaceburg Hall of
Fame and that meant a lot to me
because it was my hometown and they
didn't forget me after moving away 40
years ago. I never expected this.
London's a big city and there's a lot of
people doing so many things in sports
here.
"For me, it's just very humbling."
