While the category was won by VIA Rail's package taking tourists from the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) into the Niagara Region for the casino and a winery, Shakespeare to the Shoreline coor- dinator Laurel Armstrong says the nomination was an honour. "To think our regional program was judged against that competition is what we're so pleased about. It acknowledges that we're on the right track," she says. The nomination was announced in Ottawa the weekend of Oct. 3-5. The award category applies to any partnership combining tourism sup- pliers including media, sponsors, cities, regions and Destination Marketing Organizations, that fea- ture Ontario tourism expriences with partners such as accommoda- tions, restaurants, retailers, region- al specialties such as foods and travel experiences. The awards celebrate marketing excellence and innovation in the tourism industry, and recognize organizations who have successfully promoted Ontario as a must -see destination. "Our mutual goal is to bring visi- tors to our area and intrigue them to stay longer, travelling the historic Highway 8 and exploring the areas of Perth and Huron Counties and the charming communities," says Armstrong.
