The award was given last Thursday, Oct. 25 at the HFA's annual meeting in recognition of the family's contribu- tions tothe community. They've been involved in 4-H, the Huron County Plowing Association, their church, and Junior Farmers. Neil and Marie McGavin were there with some of their family. Their sons Brian and Jeff were there, and so was Shannon, who is married to Jeff. Neil and Marie's daughters Cathy and Heather and Brian's wife Shelley couldn't make it. Being the only one in the family who knew they were all getting the award, Marie spoke. The study will involve on-site interviews, as well as bacterial sampling of storm sewers, drainage ditches and natural watercourses. A survey will be mailed to all residents of the community within the next several weeks asking for general property and septic system information. The survey will also request contact information so that a date and time can be established to conduct a detailed on-site interview. This Notice Issued October 31st, 2007 Jack McLachlan, Clerk -Administrator Municipality of Huron East "We're proud of all our family," she said, mentioning their four children and 14 grandchildren. "I don't know how we all got here, but we kept coming in batches," she said. "I also just wanted to tell you what a pleasure it is to serve agriculture," she said. Thompson said that the contribution of the McGavins to the agricultural community has been "significant, unique and ongoing." "In this particular family, every gen- eration seems to take the responsibili- ty of contributing back to the commu- nity that much more seriously than the generation before," he said. He said the McGavins seem to believe that with intelligence and doing well in life comes the responsi- bility to give back to the community. "This family doesn't sit at home very much with its feet up," he said, noting they always seem to be out there doing something. Thompson said that since he also wears another hat in the farm book- keeping business, he knows the McGavin family has been "way more than generous in helping a number of us here weather our way through some of the tougher times by allowing us to keep going when other creditors might say, No, we've got to have that money. We've got to have it now.'" By Aaron Jacklin green breeze power Dada Reauwe Design Consultant Bob Scarth Design Consultant Wut Cout kitchens . . .
