But, the details of the discussion could not be shared at open session of council's Oct. 23 meeting, said Deputy -Mayor Bernie MacLellan. The question was raised by Tuckersmith Coun. Larry McGrath, who suggested earlier in October that council could be paying up to $1.7 million in interest if they debenture the project over 20 years at seven per cent interest. "I want to know if councillors have thought anymore about paying for the FHT building really quick since we are coming up to budget time," he said at Tuesday's meeting. "The answer to the question is yes but we can't elaborate in open ses- sion. We had some discussion but there's nothing we're ready to rec- ommend yet," answered MacLellan. Weekly recycling to continue in Seaforth While Seaforth can save $9,536 a year by switching from weekly to bi- weekly pick-up for recycling, Huron East councillors decided against the move at council's Oct. 23 meeting. "From the people I've talked to, it's a flat out no. Most people put it (their recycling) out weekly," said Seaforth Coun. Joe Steffler. "If they miss a week (during biweekly pick-up), it becomes a has- sle. They could have it (a full recy- cling box) for a month," said Deputy -Mayor Bernie MacLellan. Tuckersmith Coun. Les Falconer questioned if Tuckersmith residents were expected to have more room to store recyclables since they have bi- weekly pick-up. "But, you started with bi-weekly pick-up to begin with," said MacLellan. "Aren't we Huron East and shouldn't it be the same?" respond- ed Falconer. MacLellan pointed out that since garbage and recycling pick-up is an area -rated service, different wards do not have to offer the same ser- vices. Brussels going green with dual purpose bins Replacing 'the existing garbage cans with dual purpose bins that also allow recycling was approved for downtown Brussels by Huron East council at its Oct. 23 meeting. The request was made by the Brussels Business Group, along with another request to leave garbage units out all winter since they are sometimes removed to allow easier snow removal. "Inspired by the Centre for Applied Renewable Energy being situated in Brussels, we would like to encourage the municipality to move in a green direction where possible," said a letter from Chris Ten Pas, of the business group. "It's a good idea in that they do encourage recycling. I don't know the cost effect," said Brussels Coun. David Blaney. "I've seen the bins and people do take the time to sort things. They are a good idea," said Deputy -Mayor Bernie MacLellan. Brussels Coun. Frank Stretton warned that the community some- times has problems with people bringing their household wastes to municipal garbage cans instead of paying for bag tags. There was no discussion about how much the municipality is will- ing to spend on the bins. DRIVE A 2008 FORD FUSION AND YOU WON'T WANT TO DRIVE ANYTHING ELSE. 41111109999so....,9-jr2- 1111 ;e.
