CHSS, St. Anne's heading to WOSSAA x -country meet
More than 50 local students will
be heading to Byron this Friday to
compete in the Western Ontario
Secondary School Association
(WOSSAA) cross-country meet.
Runners from St. Anne's and
CHSS claimed their spot at the Oct.
26 meet after an impressive local
showing at Huron -Perth in
Stratford last week.
"The day pretty much played out
the way we thought it would," St.
Anne's coach Baird Robinson said of
the bi-county meet.
"We had a sense of where our
strengths were and we knew it
would be close in some divisions."
St. Anne's claimed top honours for
the day in the midget boys' and
junior girls' divisions. And, after fin-
ishing second overall as a school
and second overall for both the girls'
and boys' teams, the entire 45 -mem-
ber Eagles squad qualified for WOS-
SAA.
In the midget girls' division, St.
Anne's was second. The school also
placed third in senior boys and fifth
in senior girls and junior boys.
Shauna Regier and Pat Hartman
were among the top Eagles runners,
finishing in second and third place,
respectively.
CHSS was represented by 29 run-
ners at Huron -Perth this year, 17 of
which were new Grade 9 students
and new to the squad.
Coach Cindy Carter is hoping the
enthusiasm of the new members
will lead to larger teams in the
future.
The CHSS midget and junior boys
both finished fourth overall, and the
midget girls and senior boys were

fifth.
Ranked third overall as a team,
all 18 of the Redmen boys runners
will be making the trip to WOSSAA
this week. Midget girls' runner
Nicole McIntosh also qualified.
Unlike other high school sports,
cross-country is not divided into 'A'
divisions based on size, creating "a
difficult playing field" of 50 schools
Robinson explained.
"The two teams that won Huron -
Perth will be a factor at OFSAA," he
said.
"I'm not super confident. We have
some realistic shots, but we'll have
to see how it all plays out that day."
At WOSSAA, the top two teams
from each division and the top three
runners not on those two teams,
will qualify for the Ontario
