Men's and ladies' broom - ball in Seaforth started recently with one less team than last year, according to organizer and coach Rob Hunking. He said there are four ladies' teams, one coed team and six men's teams. "We're down one men's team," he said. "Last year we had two juvenile teams. This year we've only got one juvenile team in the league." The season started on Thursday, Oct. 4 with a game between Winthrop and the Central West Hitmen. The league, which plays all its games in Seaforth, draws players from Mitchell, St. Marys, Staffa, Exeter, Lucan, Blyth, Brussels and Clinton. "It's a large drawing area," he said. Hunking is coaching the Central West Hitmen again this year. He said that while there were enough players in past years for two teams, "whereas this year, due to schooling and other commit- ments, we only have enough to put one team in the league." Inside College Hockey released its annual recruiting rankings recently and included Dalton as its top incoming goaltender. Dalton moved to the BSU squad from the United States Hockey League's Des Moines Buccaneers. While in Des Moines he led the USHL in minutes played (3029:39) and shutouts (five) while sharing the league lead for wins with 27. His play earned him a spot on the 2007 USHL All-Star Team roster as well as Des 'Moines Buccaneer Most Valuable Player and Community Service awards. Prior to his stint in Iowa, Dalton posted North American Hockey League highs in goals against average (1.63) and save per- centage (.940) for the Bozeman Ice Dogs. He posted 33 victories with a league- lead- ing nine shutouts and paced the Ice Dogs to a NAHL regular -season championship. His stellar play earned him First -Team All- NAHL accolades and the league's MVP award. The BSU freshman was one of two stu- dent -athletes hailing from a College Hockey America member institution. He is joined my University of Alabama - Huntsville goaltender Cameron Talbot who ranked seventh on this years list. In its fifth year, the Inside College Hockey's website annual recruiting rank- ings slot the top -20 forwards and defense - men, the top -10 goaltenders and the top -15 compete recruiting classes in men's college hockey according to their perceived impacts on rinks across the country. Dalton will vie for time in the net with returning All -College Hockey America senior Matt Climie (Leduc , Alberta) and junior Orlando Alamano (Fresno, Calif.) who combined to start all but three con- tests for the Beavers a year ago. The team begins its 2007-08 season on Oct. 12-13. Dalton — the son of Larry and Karen Dalton, of Clinton — is a product of Seaforth Minor Hockey and former Central Huron secondary school student. Tyler Doig signs with Columbia Inferno in South Carolina Seaforth native Tyler Doig will begin his profes- sional hockey career in South Carolina after signing Friday with the Columbia Inferno of the ECHL. The 21 -year-old winger, a former member of the St. Marys Lincolns, had 80 points (28 goals, 52 assists) and 55 penalty. minutes while splitting the 2006-07 between the Guelph Storm and Belleville Bulls of the Ontario Hockey League. The six-foot, 180 -pound Doig also tallied 17 points in 15 playoff games with the Bulls. "Tyler is a swift skater who has proven to be a pro- lific scorer at the junior level," coach Troy Mann said in a media release. "He is a solid player at both ends of the ice, and we are pleased to add him to our for- ward corps."
