"We were asked about the MMP almost at every door," added Mitchell. First-time Progressive Conservative candidate Rob Morley captured 13,566 votes (30.5 per cent), leaving him' feeling "a little disappointed. At his election -night party in Wingham, the former South Huron mayor and Huron county warden said he has "no regrets" about his showing. "I was told at the beginning of this election that I would be in for one of the most amazing adventures of my life and it was," said Morley. "We had our ups and down, but I was surrounded by many great, talented people who helped me along the way." Morley acknowledged faith -based funding for schools could have been the biggest nail in his campaign's coffin. "We knew that was going to be a discussion issue all the way through. People thought it was done deal, but didn't fully understand the issue and not everyone settled into it, so it came back into the spotlight again before the election," he said. Morley wished Mitchell well and gave thanks to supporters, includ- ing wife, Ann. "My wife stood by me the whole time," he said. "We travelled across the riding and really enjoyed being together." Paul Klopp, a former NDP MPP, took the third-place position, cap- turing 5,927 votes (13.3 per cent) in Huron -Bruce. At his campaign party in Clinton, Klopp proved stoic about the show- ing. "The public has spoken, that's how it goes," said Klopp. • Klopp said the Liberals' strong showing is disheartening given there are important issues, like the state of the pork industry, that are being ignored. The Green Party's Victoria Serda earned 2,910 votes (6.5 percent) while the Family Coalition Party's Dave Joslin took home 1,044 votes (2.4 per cent). The independents, Dennis Valenta of Clinton and Ronald Stephens of Kincardine, took home 394 (.9 per cent) and 201 votes (.5 per cent) votes, respectively.
