Two Seaforth men join Clinton Radars this season
When the Clinton Radars take to
the ice in Clinton this Friday night
they will do so with only five new
players on their roster.
With the departure of longtime
Radars Bryan Watson and Dennis
Pearn along with Steve McInally,
Wes Neild and Dan Worsley, the
Radars didn't have too many holes
to fill.
Joining the Radars this season
are Cole Stewart, Steve Henderson,
Paul Rutledge and Dave McClory
and goalie Nathan Illeman.
Stewart, from Blyth, spent his
junior career with the Wingham
Ironmen. He was named league
Ringette
numbers good
overall, but
belles come
up short
While ringette numbers are good in
general, Seaforth ringette president
Dan Primeau says they didn't get
enough girls to form a belle team.
Primeau said the girls in that age
range who did want to play have been
encouraged to join teams in Mitchell,
Goderich, Exeter, Forest, Stratford or
St. Marys.
"The bunnies are down this year," he
said, noting that they had a huge
number of bunny players (up to 7 -
years -old) last year and many of them
have just moved up to the novice
team.
"Overall, we have 70 to 80 girls this
year," he said.
He said the numbers are sustain-
able.
While losing players to girls' hockey
may have been a concern a few years
back, Primeau said they've had some
players come back to ringette after
playing a season of hockey.
"They're two completely different
sports," he said, explaining that
ringette, by virtue of the rules, is nec-
essarily more of a team sport because
it takes a team to
move the ring to
the other end.
In hockey, one
lone player on a
breakaway is
allowed to do the
same thing.
Ringette teams
have been practis-
ing since just after
Labour Day, but
their season starts
next week.
