Hensall trying to start rec hockey
New league would 'kill two birds with one stone,' says organizer
Jennifer Hubbard
Facing a void in the hard -to -fill
Saturday night ice time, Rob Volland
and Ken Renning are hoping to devel-
op a new men's recreational hockey
league in Hensall.
"We lost our Senior 'A' club last year
and that leaves a void in the Saturday
night ice time," Volland explained.
"We thought if we could start up a
rec league it would kill two birds with
one stone - get guys out to play some
hockey and get some extra revenue for
the arena."
The Hensall Sherwoods have
announced they will be relocating to
become the Exeter Mohawks.
Just over 20 players have already
expressed an interest, but Volland
said they are hoping to find about 70
players to allow for at least five
teams.
"We're hoping to hear from some
more people in the next week or two."
And while he didn't want to focus on
age, Volland said he's hoping to see the
league consist of men aged 18 and up
from Hensall and the surrounding
area.
"It's not real competitive, we just
want something where the guys can
have fun on a Saturday night and be
done by 9:30 so they can still make
other plans."
Anyone interested in joining the
league can contact Volland or Renning
at (519) 262-3206 for more information.

Coaches' comments: Despite good pressure,
the team could not get the equalizer and then
could only watch as the Kitchener player com-
ing out of the penalty box went in on a break-

Coaches' comments: Even playing against a
