proposal they had asked for 26
units.
"In the first round, we got 16
of those because they were the

tional funding for more AEDs either

Lew said the Heart and
Stroke Foundation received $3 mil-
lion for the program from the
provincial government. The Frank
gave
Cowan Insurance Group
also $1 million.
"Having said that, every day
there's money being donated to
Heart and Stroke to be used specifi-
cally for this," he said. "In our area,
there was $5,000 donated. And

"it really puts a bit of a tight
noose around which groups we can
do it for," he said.
"We have had several indus-
try representatives who think that
it would be wise for us to have them
there as well," he said, noting that
while they don't meet the require-
ments for public funding, if the
organization itself donates the
money, they'll provide the AEDs at
the same price they're getting them.
"Which is really quite ra-
sonable," said.
As for when the devices go to
the 16 first-round locations, Lew
said that will depend on when train-
ing gets completed. He said the "up
front" work that has to be done first
would start last Thursday (Sept.
20).
"By the end of the year, we
hope to have them all out," he said.
"That's our intent, now whether we
can achieve that, I'm not too sure."

Huron East administrator
Jack McLachlan said council
received correspondence from
the Walk 21 Toronto 2007 confer-
ence which is also involved in
the world record walk.
He said council found it ironic
that they were invited to the
conference focussed on identify-
ing how to make municipalities
more friendly to pedestrians but
would have to drive to get there.
But, he said he thought the
world record walk was a good
idea.
"It's a good step for Lissa to
hold this event at one of our
walking trails this year," he said,
adding that Seaforth and Brussels
did not get one organized for this year.
