Dublin Lions Club and volunteers build playground
Trillium, West Perth and Uons Club &le $54,000 to replace condemned structure
Aaron J a c k l i n
Dublin children will soon
have a new playground to mon-
key around on.
"We hope to have the base
down this weekend," said Greg
Ryan of the Dublin Lions Club
on Saturday while a number of
volunteers, most Lions Club
members but some not, put
together the new structure.
Mike McCarthy, a member of
the Lions Club playground
committee, said the money —
about $54,000 — came from the
Trillium Foundation, West
Perth and the Lions Club.
The old playground was con-
demned last year by the
Municipality of West Perth,
which cited concerns with the
height of the structure and the
pressure -treated wood it was
made of.
It was torn down in early
January, having stood there
since the late 1970s.
4The new one stands on the
same spot beside the Lions
Club hall and across from the
school.
"Hopefully within a week or
two, it'll be fully useable,"
said McCarthy.
The only thing left to do is
the landscaping around the
playground.

Verdict still to come
on Vanastra Centre
Susan H u n d e r t m a r k
The condition of the Vanastra Recreation Centre i$
still being explored by Huron East council.
Council agreed at its Sept. 4 meeting to engage a con-
tractor to remove a portion of ceiling in the pool area to
allow the bottom roof gussets to be examined.
In a building report by B.M. Ross and Associates Ltd.,
a recommendation was made to investigate stains on
the ceiling in the pool area and the condition of the roof
gussets, including hiring a mould expert to look into
moisture problems and a musty smell.
"This will be our final decision on how good the build-
ing is," said Clerk -Administrator
