By Mary Finlayson Holmesville Hitters are champs in Huron -Perth The Holmesville Hitters junior girls' baseball team rose to the rank of Huron -Perth champions recently in Shakespeare. During the Aug. 10-11 tourney the girls went unde feated, beating out teams from Exeter, Hibbert, Shakespeare and Fullerton. The final match was against Hibbert, with Holmesville win- ning by a 7-2 lead. "They (Hibbert) came through the tournament with no losses until they met us," said coach Dave Sowerby. "It was a little bit of a shock to them, I think." This is the first year Holmesville has had a junior girls' team, and even the junior league is a new development. "This is the first year for junior girls. Other years it only went to midget," he said. "There were a lot of girls wanting to play ball. but had nowhere to go." Following a series of phone calls, they were able to put together a five - team league for Huron County Softball. • Sowerby said the team had eight wins, four losses for the season. Ashley Marion, of Seaforth, is a member of the Holmesville Hitters. The Huron Expositor • September 19, 2007 Page 17 Sports story idea? Call Susan or Aaron at 519-527-0240 • WED.
