all, winning seven games, losing
seven and tying one.
Jason Baughen coached the team
with the help of girlfriend
Samantha Lansink, who was the
team's assistant coach and score-
keeper.
Baughen said he saw "quite a bit"
of growth in the players over the
season.
"I think we endedvip finishing
sixth out of nine," he said. "In the
year end tournament we lost in the
final, just by a run."
In the Londesboro tournament,
they won 14-8 against Benmiller,
won 20-5 against Londesboro and
played Benmiller again in the final,
losing 17-16.
Baughen said it was a "tough loss
but everyone had a lot of fun and we
were really glad to make it that far."
"We had an excellent group of
kids," he said. "They really pro-
gressed well."
Brent Robinson coached the
Winthrop squirts and pre -mites.
"Both the teams did tremendously
well," he said. "It's always a real
pleasure to see 'how they improve,
'no matter the age group, from the
start of the season to the end of the
season."
The squirts had seven wins, two
losses and one tie this season, tak-
ing them to the A -finals in
Holmesville.
Their performance during the reg-
ular season gave them a bye in the
first round in the tournament.
Then they took on and beat Blyth,
but lost 14-11 to Seaforth in the
final game, which Robinson called
one of the most exciting he's been
associated with as a coach.
"We were losing in the bottom of
the 4th inning and we came back
and tied it to go to extra innings,"
said Robinson. "They got a bunch of
runs so we had to launch our own
comeback. We did, but we came up
three runs short."
They went home as silver medal-
ists.
"It really was a joy to be out there.
The kids were trying their best and
that's really the key," he said.
The junior mites also went to their
A -finals in -Varna, but Robinson said
they went in as underdogs.
They played well, beating
Londesboro and Seaforth.
Robinson said they "played their
hearts out" and "came together as a
team", but lost 23-16 in the final
game to one of the Stanley teams.
"We were silver medalists in the
A -final," he said.
Robinson said the two teams were
"a joy to coach."
Kevin Williamson coached the
Winthrop mites this year and said
the young team had a good season.
"The kids had fun," he said, noting
they had eight wins, nine losses and
one tie.
The mites tied for fifth in their
final tournament in Londesboro,
beating Holmesville and losing to
Blyth.
"They progressed really well," he
said. "The majority of our wins were
toward the end of the season."
