Local team wins national lawn bowling tourney
Gold at Canadian Majors tournament is Caro
While it's her
sixth national
championship,
Carol Carter says
she's still excited
to have won gold
at the Canadian
Majors lawn
bowling tourna-
ment last week
in Montreal. <
"It's still a big
thrill," she says.
Carter, along
with Maureen
Thompson, of the
Seaforth Lawn
Bowling Club
and Jo Anne
Bugler and
Gloria McFalls,
both of the
Exeter club, beat
Saskatchewan in
the final gold
medal game.
"You play 18
ends, compared
to 16 in provin-
cials and 12 in
regular tourna-
ments so it's a
long week and you don't realize how
exhausted you get," she says.
One of the challenges of the tour-
nament was divots in the greens,
caused by feet and bowls landing in
the soft ground.
"The divots made it tough but you
can't think about them because
they'll either slow you down or be
off course," she says, adding that
the divots challenged every team
equally.

other teams from across Canada,

Sept. 9-13.
During that week, she could be
chosen to join the Canadian team
