Seaforth's spot on Canadian
Tour set for Aug.
The Canadian Professional
Golf Tour is coming to
Seaforth in 2008 from Aug.
25-31, a week later than orga-
nizers originally thought.
"It's very good positioning
for us because Seaforth is the
last stop on the tour before
the championships in Barrie,"
says Carolanne Doig, of the
Seaforth Golf Club.
The Canadian Tour will
bring 144 professional golfers
from a dozen different coun-
tries around the world to
Seaforth for the next three
years.
The Canadian Tour is the
"third tier" of professional
golf below the PGA
(Professional Golf
Association) Tour and the
Nationwide Tour so many of
the golfers could be golfing
the PGA in five years.
Doig says the Canadian
Tour wanted to create a
swing through Ontario to
make the travelling more eco-
nomical for the golfers.
From Montreal, the
Canadian Tour goes to
Mississauga, then Seaforth
and on to Barrie.
"It all makes good sense
and creates a good flow," she
said.
Doig says that since the
Seaforth stop on the tour will
be the final one before the
25-31
championships, more will be
on the line for the golfers.
"The closer to the end of the
season, the more exciting it
gets. Seaforth will be their
last chance to earn the points
they need," she says.
The last week of August
will allow the Seaforth Golf
Club to use their summer
students for staff and volun-
teers and give greens super-
intendent Todd Doig a little
more time to prepare for the
Thur.
"It'll be a good way to wind
down the summer season,"
she says.
