Former Huron -Perth Lakers' treasurer to appear in court
Jennifer Hubbard
A former Huron -Perth Lakers'
treasurer is facing numerous
charges in connection with an
"extensive fraud" involving the
local 'AAA' hockey organization,
the Huron OPP announced last
week.
Scheduled to appear in Goderich
court on Oct. 15, the 33 -year-old
London woman — formerly of the
Clinton -area — has been charged
with eight counts of making
forged documents and one count
of fraud over $5,000.
The alleged activity began in
April of 2004 and continued
through to March 2007, resulting
in a loss of more than $32,000 for
the organization.
"The executive of the Huron -
Perth Lakers Hockey Association
acknowledges that charges have
been laid against a former trea-
surer of the organization relating
to financial irregularities during
her tenure," stated the associa-
tion's website (www.huronperth-
lakers.ca).
"The issues were brought to
light by new measures put in
place by the executive's budget
review committee."
The accused's name has yet to
be released because charges are
expected to be laid formally this
week, OPP Const. Joanna Van
Mierlo said on Friday.
Van Mierlo is the new communi-
ty services officer (CSO) for the
Huron OPP.
Currently in its 12th season,
tryouts for the Lakers' eight
teams were held last April and
Lakers president Hugo Maaskant
said the 2007-08 season is well
underway "with most teams on
the ice three or fur times
already."
"This was confined to past fiscal
periods and did'
not affect our
budgeting for
this season," he
a d d e d.
"Financially
we're strong and
secure."

Doig: 'It's exciting to win'
From Page 14
When he's in the
audience she is more
nervous, saying,
"There's more pres-
sure, because he
taught me, and he
knows I should hit the
shots right."
But when she misses
a shot he does nothing
but encourage anyway,
she says.
Doig has been golf-
ing since the age of 3
and has been playing
in tournaments for
about four years. She
now plays on the
Tyson Tour, an Ontario
tour.for junior golfers.
She says she plays
about 10 tournaments
a year. In the sum-
mers she golfs almost
everyday, usually
before or after work as
she works at the
Seaforth Golf Course,
her family's club.
On Aug. 21, the
Seaforth Golf Course
held its annual junior
tournament. Doig not
only won the girls'
division, but also fin-
ished as the number 1
junior, beating all the
boys.
"It's exciting to final-
ly beat the guys at our
course," she says.
"We've always been
close but it's exciting
to win."
She beat the top
junior boy by five
shots having shot the
best round of her life,
a 69.
The junior boy win-
ner was Alie Maxwell,
who started golfing
after he started work-
ing at the course. This
is the last year he can
compete in the junior
tournament, some-
thing he has won for
two consecutive years.

DRINKING WATER SOURCE PROTECTION COMMITTEE COMPOSITION
Ausable Bayfield and Maitland Valley Source Protection Committee
Under O. Reg. 288107, Clean Water Act, 2006
As outlined in the Clean Water Act, 2006, the Ausable Bayfield and Maitland Valley Source Protection Committee
is being created according to provincial reputation. The Source Protection Committee will oversee a science -based
planning process to develop a Source Protection Plan to protect municipal sources of drinking water in the Ausable
Bayfield and Maitland Valley Source Protection Region. The Regulation establishes a committee of 15 members,
excluding the Chair. Originally, one committee member was to have represented the Health Sector. However, the
Regulation provides that the interests of the Health Sector are to be represented by a liaison appointed by the Min-
ister. Therefore, the seat formerly identified for Health is no longer required. In order to better represent the broad,
mufti -sectoral interests of the planning region, an additional representative will be selected to fill that place. The
revised composition of the committee is listed below:
