Project expected to create 12 to 15 housing units

low income.
"Through many initiatives...
what we have tried to do is to
make a difference for those who
need it most, and obviously social
housing is a part of that," she said.
John Bezaire, chair of thecoun-
ty's social services committee, said
that by far Goderich has the
longest waiting list in Huron.
"They're the ones that we've
struggled with the most, so to see
the bulk of the money come to
Goderich is certainly going to
make our jobs an awful lot easier,"
he said.
The money is more than welcome
in Clinton, he added, because
there was a waiting list issue as
well.
"(This) announcement for
Clinton should more or less clear
that up," he said.
Speaking to Goderich again, he
said rental rates and the real
estate market in this area make it
impossible for some to make their
rent.
"This is a program that allows us
to... (provide) comfortable, safe,
reasonable housing at a price that
(those in need) can afford," he said.
The more than $1 million has
been allocated for a project spon-
sored by Bethel Pentecostal
Church and the Goderich
Salvation Army,

Bezaire said 12 to 15 affordable
housing units would likely be cre-
ated through this project, though
plans have not been finalized.
The location of this facility has
yet to be confirmed, and parties
involved will not confirm if it will
result in the construction of a new
facility or the modification of an
existing building.
An additional $141,000 was allo-
cated for a three -unit project at 18
Waterloo St. in Goderich. The
monies allocated for Clinton are
intended for a six -unit project on
Albert St.
"The idea of this program is to
keep the rents at a reasonable
level," said Dave Overboe, admin -

"Young families just getting
started or young couples, young
singles coming into the county —
we want to encourage them to be
employed within town, and we
have to have good, reasonable
accommodations."
Though an Ontario election is set
for October, both Bezaire and
Overboe are confident the money
allocated will be received when it
is needed.
"The bills probably won't even
come before the election, but T do
expect we'll see the money when
the time is needed," Bezaire said.
