"Would there be any more cars than when the- school was there?" asked Mayor Joe Seili. Datema added that emergency vehicles might have difficulty get- ting into the new subdivision with only one access route. And, he wor- ried how the ppssibility of asbestos in the school would be handled when it is torn down. Datema also said he wanted to see the existing mature trees remain. Many residents expressed a desire( to have the existing fence remain, citing privacy and security as the reason. MacLellan said council wanted to fully understand the concerns of the neighbourhood while negotiating a development agreement with the developers. "This is not going to be an easy task for us," he said. Seili said a recent Huron County market study pointed to a need for more housing ranging from single family dwellings to duplexes, triplexes and quadplexes. "There's a big need in the area and Mitchell and Bayfield are going full guns on it. If the municipality in the past had gotten pro -active, maybe we wouldn't have lost the high school," he said. Seili invited residents to view some of the homes Barnim has built in Vanastra. "They're very good homes - two or three have sold already," he said. "Everyone is for having Seaforth flourish," said Cheryl -Ann St. Onge, adding that the financial concerns of both the developer and the cur- rent residents and their property values have to be considered. "I don't think anyone is fighting against the development. We've got a few concerns - that's all," _ said Lansink. Council deferred a decision on both the official plan changes and the rezoning. "The people who took the time to come tonight will at least know we're listening if we say it's deferred," he said. Seaforth Coun. Joe Steffler said council needs to "get cracking" on the development agreement. "They're not going to invest money and sit on it for three or four more years," he said. McKillop Coun. Bill Seimon agreed with deferring the motions adding that Leeming wanted to take a closer look at the access to Highway 8 from a planning perspec- tive. '1'IIO`IPSON URE'1'I1i11NE.
