Seaforth garden tour sees over 170 visitors
Joint project of Horticultural Society and BIA raises close to $1,000

While the hot, dry weather had some gardeners worried they
wouldn't have any flowers to display, the joint Seaforth and
District Horticultural Society and the Business Improvement
Area (BIA) garden tour was a success.
"We had about 100 people through Saturday and over 70 today
(Sunday),"said Horticultural Society president Margaret
DeJong, who also had her garden on the tour.
"People are getting ideas for their gardens and even if they
don't have a garden of their own, they're having fun looking,"
she said.
Dejong said visitors were remarking at how much they were
enjoying the fact that all six gardens on the tour were very dif-
ferent.
Organizer Barb Dalrymple says the gargen tour raised close to
$1,000 to split between the Horticultural Society and the BIA.
Randy and Nancy Ball, of Kirkton, said they were looking for
ideas for their garden.
"We have a real challenge on the highway - winter takes its
toll," said Nancy, adding that she was most interested in the
hostas, ferns and day lilies.
"There are some very simple things you can do. I look at the
gardens and say, 'Why didn't I think of that?" she said.
Dorothea Williamson, whose garden was part of the tour, said
she was having fun showing off her garden.
"It's nice to get a few compliments. I've always had good luck
with hydrangeas and people have been asking how I keep them
blooming so nice," she said.
Williamson added that it's been a challenge keeping the gar-
den in top form for the tour with the dry weather.
"It's been just terrible with no rain. It's been hard to keep the
hanging pots looking nice," she said.
