Finally a much need-
ed rain in Winthrop!
Now, the grass should
start to green up again.
Jim Axtmann
attended the Steam
Show in Ilderton this
past weekend.
Bob and Ruth Campbell
and their family held
their annual camping
get together this past
weekend at Fisherman's
Cove. It got a little damp
on Saturday but didn't
keep them indoors com-
pletely.
Jim and Ruth
Axtmann recently
returned from a trip to
Newfoundland and
Labrador. They flew into
Cornerbrook where they
boarded a bus and trav-
elled up the north shore
and took the ferry to
Labrador.
They stopped at Red
Bay which was a whal-
ing station. Here they
learned the history of
whaling and models
depicting the way it
was.
They climbed a couple
of light-
houses in
this area.
They visited Gros
Morne National Park
where they saw lots of
moose. Gros Morne is on
Newfoundland's west
shore.
Also, nearby they
toured a recreated
Viking village. On their
ride, they saw a lot of
icebergs and an island
with Puffins on it.
Next stop was St.
John's where they tried
Screech and went whale
watching but didn't see
any. They were told it
was on account of the
cool weather which dis-
courages whales.
They noticed
gardens in the
roadside ditch-
es and were
told that for
the most part
that was the
only place
where there
was enough
earth as their
houses are
