range of possible medical careers

said.
Counsellor Katerina Aguilar, of London,
said she was surrounded by students every
break with "one question after another"
about medical school and university.
"Over half to two-thirds said they were
thinking -about medical school," she said. "If
they pursue it as strongly as they showed
at camp, they'll get there. These are the
type of kids who will go far."
Chantal Masse, of Zurich, said the week
helped to reinforce her plans to become a
nurse.
"It's really comforting to know it's some-
thing you'd like to do. I can't wait to get out
there and take it in school," she said,
adding she might have had to go through
years of training otherwise before getting
the upclose look at the career that
MedQuest provided.
Sarah Elligsen, of Dublin, said the camp
changed her mind about her future plans.
Instead of going into nursing, she said she
now plans to enter pharmacy.
Jennifer Mead, of Mitchell, said the camp
reinforced for her how active and exciting a
medical career could be.
"I liked how we wouldn't be sitting in an
office all day - we'd be up and learning and
helping people all day. You'd go home
exhausted but it would be so worth it," she
said.
Charlotte Beaumont, of Mitchell, said the
job shadowing was her favourite part
because it helped her to discover she'd also
like to be a pharmacist.
"I like chemistry so I'm leaning to phar-
macy. I like that you don't have to give nee-
dles but you're still helping," she said, adding
that she wants to stay in her home town and
pharmacy will allow her to do that.
Sarah Walker, of Stratford, said she liked
learning the "truth" about a large number of
medical occupations, along with the good
advice about which courses to take.
"I've been on the medical track a long time
and this camp made me certain," she said.

of Dublin, said she was
impressed by the firefight-
ers.
"I realized it would be
sweet to be a firefighter. I
thought they just put out
fires but they were caring
for people too," she said.
While Ben Shepherd, of
Seaforth, still isn't sure
what profession he'll pur-
sue after high school, the
son of Dr. Carolin
Shepherd, MedQuest's
"champion doctor" in
Seaforth said he learned a
greater appreciation for
his mom's job.
"It made me see how
much is involved in medi-
cine. They know a lot," he
said.
