Art with Andrea is a children's art class in Seaforth where children ages six to 14 can hone their cre- ative skills under professional guid- ance. After finishing teacher's college Andrea Longstaff, of Egmondville, says, "I had to create my own job." With a passion for art and a bach- elor of fine arts honours degree in visual arts she calls this opportuni- ty a chance to give back to the com- munity that supported her and that she grew up in. Longstaff also taught an art program in Goderich. She says she discovered art in high school and having inspira- tional teachers had an influence on her. "Art is learn- ing about your- self," she says and wants the kids to have fun while learning about art. She says learning outside of school is important for children growing up. The students will study these his- toric artists and create artist - inspired art. The Elements of Art program will teach the students the basic elements of understanding and creating art. The fourth program is called Make a Masterpiece. The last day of the programs is an art show. Longstaff says, "It's their opportunity to put on their own show," adding, "They become artists • in five days." Parents can come in and see what their children and what the other students have created. The programs don't break up into age groups because Longstaff says, "They learn from each other." She encourages people to take advantage of "something new" that "children can enjoy." The programs begin on either July 18 or July 19, depending on the program, and run to Aug. 22 or Aug. 23. Classes are held in the Seaforth Optimist Park Building. The programs cost $100 to $110 and a registration will ,be held July 12, at the Seaforth, Optimist Building from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. The last day to register is July 15.
