Young golfers learn the sport during Take a Nd to the Cqurse Week
Jordan Baker
Last week was -Take a
Kid to the Course week
at the Seaforth Golf and
Country Club.
Accompanied by an
adult, children 16 and
under could play a round
for free.
The week involved
daily lessons in the
morning where the
juniors were taught dri-
ving, iron shots, putting
and chipping. On July 3,
they held the junior clin-
ic as part of junior morn-
ing, held every Tuesday,
and Doig says there were
about 70 junior golfers
participating.
Friday's bunker lesson
brought 15 junior golfers
round the practice
bunker to pick up tips on
how to get their ball off
the beach.
Instructed by Cam
Doig, director of golf at
the course, the bunker
lesson began, of course,
with a little golf eti-
quette.
The golfers were first
taught about raking the
sand trap, as a courteous
gesture to the next golfer

who finds themselves
unluckily in the bunker.
The lesson was capped
off with a one ball, one
shot, closest to the buck-
et, bunker contest, and in
the end Doig was able to
practically demonstrate
his final lesson to the
kids.
"In golf it doesn't mat-
ter if you're the biggest
or the strongest."
Seven-year-old Parker
Doig, possibly the small-
est child there, won the
friendly competition.
