"Being principal here has been such a great experience. Seaforth is such a nice community," she says. Brown says St. James has a long history of being an excellent school and any recognition it got during her tenure - such as being chosen by the province as a "lighthouse school" because of its high achieve- ment in literacy and numeracy - should go to the staff and students. "They were just recognizing what was here all along. A dedicated staff is just part of the St. James culture. It's been a real treat to be here," she says. Brown contin- ued combatting bullying, and says there's been progress with the reduced inci- dence of physical bullying. "I like to think we made some progress. We're still working on social bullying but everyone has a long way to go on that one," she says. While she's taking an early retirement, Brown says she'll be joining her husband in his business as his office manager. He installs medical gas systems in hospitals across Ontario and Brown is hoping to travel with him. "I'd been thinking about retiring all year and all the pieces just seemed to fall together," she says. Still, she says she'll miss the stu- dents. "I11 miss the first skipping ropes of spring, bright snowsuits on a winter day, the hugs and secrets from the primary students and the camaraderie with the staff," she says. SPA SPECIALS AVAILABLE!
