Seaforth Coun. Bob Fisher asked if the truck was all Can4dian. "No, the truck is built in South Dakota, I believe," said Bedard. Bedard was asked if Metalfab Ltd. was Canadian. "They're from New Brunswick," he said. Bedard was then asked why they hadn't gone with the Canadian company, which had submitted a lower proposal for $303,622. Bedard explained part of the reason is the two internal elec- trical valves on the ResQTech truck are better than the manual valves offered by Metalfab. "There's $3,000 right there for the better valves," he said. "Have you talked to any departments that have this machine?" said Fisher. "Lucan has a custom cab from ResQTech," said Bedard. "They're pleased with it." "Would there be room for six?" asked Fisher. "Oh, yes," said Bedard. Room for six firefighters was list- ed as a safety priority when the specifications of a new truck were discussed at a previous council meeting. Bedard was then asked about war- ranties. "The chassis warranty is one year, the cab itself is 10 years, the engine is five years, the transmission is five years, the pump is two years, the plumbing is 10 years, the body is five years, the water tank is life- time, and the paint is five years," said Bedard, noting the only difference in war- ranties offered by ResQTech and Metalfab is that Metalfab's plumbing warranty was only for a year, compared to ResQTech's 10 years. Deputy -Mayor Bernie MacLellan said his opinion hadn't changed about being concerned about going the custom route, though there are some things he certainly agrees with, especially the warranties. "I'm more than will- ing to pay for the dif- ference in price to get that kind of security," he said. "I guess, financially, it still comes down to for me, if I owned all of Huron East and it was my responsibility to take care of my own stuff, would I spend the extra money on a truck? I don't know that I would," he said, noting he thought there were valid arguments from the fire- fighters. "When the firemen are going to a fire, they want a certain number of people in the truck and without that Agg1=11V 'When the firemen are going to a fire, they want a certain number of people in the truck and without that number of people when they get to the fire, it's not safe to start the work they're supposed to do,'— Huron East Deputy Mayor Bernie MacLellan Men charged after shotgun break and enter tools found y in vehicle near Dublin A 20 -year-old Kitchener man and a 26 -year-old Stratford man face charges after police stopped a vehicle and found drugs, break and enter tools and a shotgun north of Dublin on Perth Road 180 at Canada Company Road recently, report the Huron OPP. Joe Steffler said, "These are volunteer firemen who aren't making a million dollars a year. I think they should be given the equipment they ask for, not just found a small amount of methampheta- mine, break and enter tools and a 12 gauge shotgun. The gun had a handmade pistol grip and 15 inch barrel. The Kitchener man was charged with possession of break- in instru- ments and two firearms charges.
