Huron Expositor, 2007-07-11, Page 2Page 2 The Huron Expositor • July 11, 2007 News Ag Society dra sells 841 tickets in 18th year - Dwindling sales have executive looking at future of annual event on July 11 Aaron Jacklin The recent Agricultural Society draw at the Seaforth and District Community Centre had people out from as far away as Owen Sound, Brampton and Windsor. "It's a wonderful party," said Agricultural Society member Ross Ribey during the event. "We've got two great bands." Shelly Rastin, with Dry County performed under the tent outside while the Red Rascal Band played inside the arena. Ribey said people from 19 to 90 years old were there enjoying the evening. They were all there hoping to win the grand prize of $25,000, but also for dinner, live music and a chance at one of the other 99 prizes. One hundred names were drawn over the course of the night, with the last name drawn winning the $25,000. "Betty (Germyn) and I won a prize this year," said Agricultural Society president Marie Hicknell-Feeney on the night of the draw. She said the small gift certificate they won was the first time she had won anything at an ag society draw. Hicknell-Feeney said they sold 841 tickets for the night. In a telephone interview this week, Ribey said that figure is down since last year, guessing by maybe 100. Ribey expects there will b0 a dis- cussion about the future of the draw at the ag society's general meeting tonight (July 11). Secretary treasurer Betty Germyn said the discussion is a routine one 'that happens every year, though she did say ticket sales have dwindled in the last couple years and the ag society is somewhat concerned. In previous years the ag society had raf- fled off tractors and •trucks instead of cash. "The generos- ity of the business- es in Seaforth and the surrounding area has just been phenomenal for the last 18 years," said Ribey.
