Staff changes planned at many local schools

Teachers and educational assistants
from many local schools are getting
ready to leave their schools for new
opportunities.
From Central Huron Secondary
School in Clinton, Vice Principal Sheila
Jankowski will retire after 35 years (4
years with CHSS) and principal Herb
Klassen is transferring to Listowel
District Secondary School.
Five teachers will also leave. Bruce
Pepper and Crystal Granger will be
leaving after having taught for a year.
Jason Doble and Steve Lindstrom will
leave after having been with the school
for half a year. Joel Gilbert is taking a
leave of absence.
Thnia Savidant, Laura Denys, Karle
Chapman and Gilbert Pinkney are all edu-
cation assistants leaving in September after
having been with the school for a year.
Having taught at CHSS previously,
Laura Browne, Denise Haines and
Therese Bowler -Cooke will return to the
school.
According to the Seaforth Public
School principal Kim Black, two teach-
ers and one educational assistant are
leaving from the permanent staff at the
end orthis school year.
Ron Vercruyssen has been with the
school for five years and taught grades 6
and 7. He'll be transferring to Elma.
Christa Walden, who taught grade 1
for the last year, is going to Victoria
Public School in Goderich.
Niki Saunders, a permanent educa-
tional assistant who had been away
recently attending school, will be leaving
to pursue her teaching career.
Two new permanent teachers will join
the staff next year. Melanie Douglas will
teach grade 1 and Karen Spillane will
take the grade 7 and 8s.
"Karen taught with us before, but she's
now coming to us as a permanent staff
member," says Black.
Spillane will be on maternity leave
come September, with Jason Steinacker
filling in until she comes back in March.
Steinacker is finishing another short-
term contract with the school now.
Of SPS's short-term contract staff, four
will leave: Christa Bennett, Tanya
Simpraga, Erin Fortune and Lucinda
Morrison.
Principal Black says there may be
more people joining or returning to the
staff, but can't say who because the
board hasn't finished the process and the
incoming staff don't even know for sure
yet.
At St. Columban School, principal
Judy Merkel says three teachers will
move on.
Sarah Breen, who has been with the
school for two years teaching grade 3, is

Core French teacher Ann Marie
Parsons is leaving for Precious Blood in
Exeter after a year with St. Columban.
Grade 8 teacher Andria Brick an will
be going on maternity leave in
September.
Sean McDade and Jennifer Haggarty
will join St. Columban, with Haggarty
teaching core French Merkel couldn't say
what McDade will teach since they're still
juggling a lot of the positions around.
Gail Fonseca, an educational'assistant
with the school for a
year, is also leaving.

Betty Visser and special education
teacher Linda O'Conner will be moving
on. Visser and O'Conner have been with
the school seven years and one year
respectively.
At St. James School, principal Mary
Brown is retiring after 23 years in teaching.
No replacement has yet been named.
Other teachers moving on include
Teresa Finlayson who is moving to St.
Boniface School in Zurich, Marg
Pavkeje, who is moving to Precious
Blood School in Exeter, Pat Nigh, who is
moving to St. Michael Secondary School
in Stratford and Joanne Smith, who is
moving to St. Joseph's School in Clinton.

Financial Assistance for Producers
The new federal Cost of Production Payment
will provide $400 million in assistance to Canadian
producers to help address high production costs.
If you provided your 2004 farming income and
expense information for the Canadian Agricultural
Income Stabilization (CAIS) program, you do not need
to apply for the payment.
If you did not participate in 2004 CAIS, or began
farming in 2005 or 2006, you can apply now to
receive a payment.
