HomeMy WebLinkAboutHuron Expositor, 2007-06-27, Page 29News Blyth Festival's youth drama program to kick off next week with a heroic twist The Huron Expositor • June 27, 2007 Page 29 Super Heroes and Villains is the theme for the Blyth Festival's drama program for children five to 12 years from July 2 to 6 at the Blyth Festival. The children's workshop runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily that week. On Saturday, July 7, the theatre will host a special presentation for parents at 11 a.m. featuring a perfor- mance by the children. 'lb take part in the Blyth Festival's children's workshops, call 519-523- 9300 and register before June 29. Emily Johnston, a member of last year's Young Company and four local high school students will lead these activities. Youth bring their lunch each day and are provided with juice and a morning snack. Blyth Memorial Hall and Blyth's outdoor parks are the center for all activities. Everyone meets each morn- ing in the lower hall of Blyth Memorial Hall. Cost is $60 per child for the week. GRADUATION GARY GODKIN son of Marion and Lavern Godkin of RR#1, Walton, graduated on June 8, 2007 from Nipissing University, North Bay with a Master of Education degree. He previously received a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Science degree from Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo. Gary is presently Director of Administration at St. Andre'w's College, Aurora. have made a generous contribution to help us expand our youth outreach activities this summer," says Eric Coates, Artistic Director, Blyth Festival. "Year after year, young people involved with our theatre, create exciting work based on their own experience. Many children from our children's workshops have led into roles in the Young Company," he says. The Young Company program for students is expanded to ages 13 to 19 years. This season, the young actors will begin rehearsals on Aug. 13 and cre- • ate a new play called Wireless to be performed in the Blyth Festival's Garage Theatre from Sept. 11 to 15. There are no registration fees and the five-week training program is free. Professional directors Andrea Donaldson and Gil Garratt will pro- vide instruction in playwriting, physi- cal movement, voice and improvisa- tion. Daily rehearsals are high-energy sessions that incorporate all of these skills. Young Company members will enjoy seeing plays at the Blyth GRADUATION KATIE THOMAS Katie Thomas, daughter of Mike & Marilyn Thomas, graduated from the University of Waterloo on June 13, 2007. She received an Honours Bachelor of Science degree specializing in Ecology & Environment Biology. Katie will be continuing her studies in the Masters Program at the University of Waterloo. Kate has accepted a position with the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance, in Clinton and Seaforth emergency departments. Kate is the daughter of Sharon and lovingly remem- bered Bill Camcxhan. Lindsey was the recipient of the President's Honour Roll award as well as receiving the Jean Fraser Campbell Pharmacy Technician Award at completion of first year for.top Grade Point average in her program.
