Chum, who's job shadowed doctors in Clinton and Stratford, says he notices how hands-on rural medi- cine is and how involved physicians become in their communities. "Doctors really seem to enjoy the fact that they can follow a family as it grows. They can see the youngest son grow up and then deliver his family," he says. Aguilar says she's struck by the variety a rural doctor will have, practising in family medicine, work- ing in hospital and emergency as well as visiting nursing homes. "It seems a little more exciting and that you can keep things fresh with the variety," she says. While the three are working all week and living in the apartment at the Seaforth post office, they are taking advantage of the weekends to visit the sights throughout Huron and Perth like the beaches and shops in Bayfield and Goderich. "Marvin and I have joined Rob's Gym," says Aguilar and Agoston adds she's been hiking and biking everywhere with the aim of finding some fresh strawberries at a local farm. Laura Overholt, manager of the Healthkick program which orga- nizes MedQuest, says she's happy how communities are working hard to make the medical students feel welcome. "People are really starting to understand what this initiative is trying to accomplish and they're taking a real interest in participat- ing," she says. "Communities have really come to the table as far as giving experi- ences to the students goes," says Overholt. As well, she says the students are throwing themselves into the total experience, staying in the communi- ty on their days off. "This group is making the most of the experience," she says.
