"Nicholas got the gold and every member of the St. Anne's team medalled," said Alex, Nicholas's father who is celebrating his son's win again this year with decora- tions on the front lawn of his East William Street home. Nicholas, a graduate of Seaforth Public School, earned a silver medal last year at OFSAA while in Grade 9 at St. Anne's Secondary School. Hearing impaired since birth, he ran in the ambulato- ry 100 -metre dash with a final time of 12:87, which his father says could be a personal best. "It was a bigger field than the previous year with eight in one heat," says Alex. While Nicholas was only 1.48 seconds slower last year than the winner, an 18 -year-old student from F.E. Madill, he is now leading the pack in the ambulary divi- sion. "He's got to run his own race and push himself now. I tell him there's a ghost in front of him he's got to beat. But, some of the boys were breathing hard up his back," says his dad. Nicholas was top seed entering the OFSAA competi- tion. Redmen are Huron Perth champions Central Huron's junior boys' soccer team won the Huron -Perth championship May 25 in Stratford. At the Packham Road soccer fields, the Redmen defeated the Stratford Central Ramblers in a semifinal shootout. With the score tied 1-1 at the end of regula- tion time, Craig Dalrymple stopped 2 of 4 shootout attempts which was enough to secure the win. Scoring on the shootout for CHSS were Antonis Zembashi, Justin Arts and Jade Maxwell who also scored in regulation time. In an all -Huron final, the Redmen met the South Huron Panthers who had defeated Stratford Saint Michael in the other semifinal match. Jade Maxwell continued his dominant offensive play and opened the scoring early in the first half. Jeff Gibson and Antonis Zembashi worked some down -low magic that resulted in the Redmen's second goal with Gibson finishing the play. Losing 2-0, the Panthers tried desperately to get back into the game but were stymied by the excellent defense of David Bolton and stellar goaltending of Craig Dalrymple. Dalrymple and the team were able to preserve the shutout and earn the championship with a 2-0 Redmen win. "I'm particularly proud of this team," said CHSS coach Bill Shore. "They played with skill, class and heart to defeat two very strong opponents. This was a great way to end an excellent season."
