Demand is on the rise this spring
at the Seaforth and Area Food Bank
with record highs expected for May.
But, food bank chair Ken Papple
says he's not sure what economic
forces are driving the increased
demand.
"It may be the unusual weather
this spring. Maybe people are still
needing to heat their homes instead
of being able to buy groceries," he
says.
This April, 171 people used the
Seaforth food bank, opposed to 113
in April last year.
And, while numbers aren't yet tal- savers too - they contributed a sig-,
lied for May, Papple is expecting nificant amount this year," says
them to be "pretty significant." Papple.

Inspired by Stacie Van
Miltenburg, of Seaforth, Morris-
Turnberry Coun. Mark Beaven will
be getting a new hair cut this sum-
mer, but it will be a little shorter
than usual.
Beaven had his head shaved last
week, all in support of Childcan, a
charitable organization that works
with the Oncology Department at
the Children's Hospital of Western
Ontario in London.
"A young friend of mine chal-
lenged me to help her in her
fundraising efforts for this worth-
while cause, so I thought if a 16 -
year -old high school girl is willing to
go with the `bald' look to raise
money, I should be able to as well,"
said Beaven.
Van Miltenburg has raised close to
$2,000 recently and had her head
shaved on Tuesday, June 5 at St.
Anne's Secondary School in Clinton.
"I cut my hair

and donated it to

and raise money for Childcan at the
same time. Knowing that Mark is
always up for a little fun, I figured I
would get his help as well."
Beaven, whose head was shorn in
downtown Brussels on the evening
of June 29 outside of Cinnamon
Jim's, has just started his fundrais-
ing efforts.
"We plan on having a little fun
with this," said Beaven. "So far
everyone has been quite supportive
of the effort, and is enjoying seeing
me sporting the Kojak look."
