Big Bike for Stroke raises
$7,313 in Seaforth

The Big Bike for Stroke fundraiser raised
$7,313 in Seaforth, according to event
organizer Erin Maloney.
"We only had one team out in Seaforth last
year," said Maloney, "so to have had four
this year is excellent."
Sun North Systems, the Huron -Perth
Catholic District School Board, the Seaforth
Hospital and the Northside United Church
each had teams out last Monday to peddle
the 29 -seat bike around Seaforth.
The teams started from the Seaforth
Legion, peddled north on Main Street,
turned east at Goderich Street, south at
Chalk, west on Crombie and north on Main
Street back to the Legion.
"It looks hard, but once you get peddling,,
it's easy," said Basil Ho, a systems analyst
with the Huron -Perth Catholic District
School Board who participated in the ride.
Ho called the ride "exhilarating."

Lead likely

water:
officials
S u s a n Hundertmark
Because there are no lead
services on file in municipal
records, municipal officials in
Huron East believe there
should be no problem with
lead in the water throughout
the municipality.
"We talked about it at the
water and sewer committee
and we know of no lead joints
within the Seaforth system,"
says Clerk -Administrator
Jack McLachlan.
In April, Ontario's
Environment Ministry
confirmed tests of London's
tap water showed elevated
lead and London's health unit
then warned young children
and pregnant women not to
consume unfiltered and
untested tap water from
homes or buildings
Since then, elevated levels
of lead have been found in
Hamilton, Owen Sound, St.
Marys, Sarnia and St.
Thomas and Ontario's chief
drinking water inspector has
ordered 36 cities and towns to
conduct tests in older homes.
McLachlan says it's possible
there could still be lead pipes
in local homes but that none
of the muniicipal pipes are
made from lead.
Barry Mills, public works
coordinator, says he's received
no calls of complaint or
concern about lead in the
