When Frank Verberne, of
Seaforth, entered this year's Senior
Men's Tournament at the Seaforth
Golf Club last week, his only aim
was to "shoot a good round."
But, when he finished the day
winning against 132 players from
across Ontario, he says he ended up
"wearing a perma-grin for the rest
of the day."
"It felt incredible - all that hard
work and practice from 20 years of
golfing started to pay off," he says.
Verberne shot a 69, two under par,
beating out three others who tied at
70.
"It's the first tournament he's ever
won. It was a huge win in a very
strong field. There were some very
good golfers there and he whupped
them," says Carolanne Doig of the
Seaforth Golf Club.
Verberne says that while he can
be very hard on himself while golf-
ing, he spent the tournament "nice
and relaxed and never got overly
excited."
"I got a couple of birdies and
everything fell into place," he says.
The tournament was held on
Wednesday, May 23.
